It was expected that about 500 students & 15-20 teachers would attend the meeting. The reason was that the fixed venue (Arts Faculty Lounge) was changed at once due to some unavoidable circumstances.
The chief guest of the evening was Dr. Imteyaz Ahmad Khan, a UK based retired consultant anesthetist in National Health Service (Govt. Hospitals), born in Chapra distt. of Bihar in early 40s.
Dr. Khan while speaking on the occasion expressed his pleasure on his maiden visit to this great seat of learning. He urged the distinguished gathering consisting of teachers and students of AMU to work for the needy & deserving section of the community in general and deprived & downtrodden section of Muslims from Bihar in particular. Dr. Khan also recalled how he associated himself to the Bihar Anjuman. The works carried out by Anjuman attracted him the most and without giving a second thought, he decided to work with the people who were rendering their services to the humanity in need. Dr. Khan further pointed out that before joining Anjuman, he was not associated with any philanthropic organization though he was serving the needy & poor on personal level. He also clarified why there is more emphasis on poor Muslims from Bihar. He said there is no regional consideration into it. He forwarded most obvious reason in this regard that among Muslim community in India, Muslims from Bihar are the most backward & under privileged and therefore they deserve our special attention.
While answering the questions of the students, he elaborated his plan to provide the financial help to poor meritorious students, he emphasized the significance of cooperation among students in various ways e.g. seniors may provide academic guidelines to juniors, meritorious & intelligent students may help the students who are academically weak.
Dr. Moiz Shams, an ophthalmologist working in K.S.A., an old boy of AMU were also present in the functions as a special guest. Dr. Moiz informed the audience how through a friend, he came to know about the Anjuman and impressed by its activities and expressed the desire to work with it forever. He described in detail his work in and around Patna where with the help of local people he organizes eye camps under the banner of Anjuman.
