OUR JOURNEY TO THE DAY OF RESURRECTION, PART-XIII
- By Gheyas S Mahfoz Hashmi, Jeddah (hgheyas@albatool.com.sa

… Continued from previous issue.

In last 2 issues I have discussed about the distribution of Statement of Account (Record Book), stating that the people will perfectly see all entries of their actions (good or bad/tiny or huge) in their respective books of account.

Below are links to all the previous parts for the convenience of readers and those who are seeking Jannah.

qiyamat
Next is Hisab (Reckoning), i.e. retribution for one's actions. Allah Almighty will recompense His creation for all the good or the bad they did in their lifetime. In this stage, settlement of public claims will also be made.

Initially all prophets will be asked as a whole about the messages they conveyed to their nations and then from each and every prophet their witnesses will be sought. Righteous people from the believers will be entered Heaven without Hisab.  Imams Bukhari and Muslim reported that Ai'sha (R) said that the prophet Muhammad (S) said: "Destroyed is the one who has his account settled on the Day of Resurrection” , Ai'sha said: "O messenger of Allah, didn't Allah say "Then he who is given his records in his right hand soon will his account be taken by easy reckoning" (Al-Inshiqaq: 7 and 8) The prophet (S) replied: "This is the skimming through the deeds; and destroyed is the one who has his account settled on the Day of Judgment.”

There will be two different ways that Allah will hold people accountable for their deeds.

1.    In the first way, Allah will quickly and easily skim through the people's deeds, and will allow them to enter paradise safely. Those who believe strongly, and with sincerity, will enter paradise in this manner.
2.    In the second way, Allah will discuss the people's deeds in depth and in detail, and will hold them accountable for each evil act they committed. Then Allah will send them away to the Hell Fire. These are the disbelievers, hypocrites, those who are weak in their faith, or those who are not sincere; they will enter the Hell Fire in this manner.

At the time of reckoning the people will try their best to prove their innocence, and accordingly they will put blames on others (their seniors and leaders, etc), but when their wrongdoings will be proved with the help of witnesses from prophets and the people, in addition to the witness from the parts of their bodies, they will be stunned by the judgment against them.

The nation of the prophet Mohammad (S) will be reckoned first although they are the last nation. It is a great privilege given to the nation of the last prophet (S). The glad tidings of Heaven are for the believers who had been prompt in doing good deeds.  “The noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in Allah-fearing” (Al-Hujraat:13).

Reported from Aisha, R.A., that she remembered Hell and cried.  The Prophet (S) asked:  What makes you cry? Aisha said: I thought of Hell and I cried. Will you remember your family at the Day of Resurrection? Answered  the Prophet (S): As far as 3 places (Mizan, distribution of record books, Sirat) are concerned no one will remember others till he knows his Mizan (Balance) if it is light or heavy; and at the time of record book distribution where it will be said: Shake the head from sleepiness and read the record book till he knows where his book falls, in his right hand or in his left hand or at his back; and at the time of bridge (Sirat) crossing, that lies at the back of the Hell. (Abudawood, Ahmad, Hakim).

Numerous questions about (life, youth, wealth, knowledge, hearing, sight, tong, heart, covenant, comfort & blessing, etc) will be asked. The first reckoning will be for Salat (prayers). According to authentic Hadiths, the first question which will be asked on the Day of Judgement is about Salah. As referred to the saying of our prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam):

The first thing that the servant will be called to account for on the Day of Judgment will be Salah. If it is good, his deeds will have been good. If it is bad, his deeds will have been bad. (At-Tabarani)

Also, Rasoolullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) said, “The first thing the people will be accountable for on the Day of Judgment is prayer, Allah will say to His angels (even though he already knows) : “Look at my servant’s prayers. Were they complete or not?” If they were complete, it will be written as complete. If they were not complete, Allah will say: “See if my servant has voluntary prayers; if he has them, Allah will say: Complete his obligatory prayers’ shortage with his voluntary prayers.” Then the rest of his deeds will be dealt with in the same manner.” (Reported by Imams Ahmad, Abu Dawood, An-Nisa'i, and Al-Hakim)

As for rights towards the servant of Allah, the first thing adjudicated between people on the Day of Judgment will be murder (Agreed upon).

Dowry excuse: It helps the inferior girls to marry
--- Aleem Khan Falaki, aleemfalki@yahoo.com

Some people make an excuse that "If the dowry and the dinner are not given, the wedding of thousands of those girls will become impossible who are not of fair color, blackish or uneducated or divorcee or widow or inferior due to many reasons".

It is not true. The dowry would have been the best solution if it were helpful to wed such girls. If it were the case that the fair color, educated and posh family girls were married without any dowry while only the inferiors girls needed dowry to be married, the mentioned excuse would have been acceptable.

The situation is that the dowry is inevitable irrespective of the girls' beauty, education, financial status etc. Please kindly take a survey of 10 or 20 of your cousins and colleagues. (In fact, you will have to conduct a thorough investigation too as no one will tell you the facts honestly).

You will find that:

99% will condemn the dowry system but they have committed to accept the dowry by consent or under the "default" system.

50% of their mothers and elders set the game, sent the proposal to those girls' houses from where they could acquire a lot without asking or bargaining.

40% of them (In fact, their parents) mentioned the list of articles and set the conditions.

5% of them refrained from extravagance and discounted many things from the normal list like Cash (Joda, Tilak or Streedhanam),Gold, Bed, Furniture,
Automobile and other assets with Dinner etc. But it is not that they married without letting the parents of the girl spend a single penny.

3% of them married in unusual situation like a love marriage, or for the sake of immigration, iqama etc where the dowry was not involved. If it were the normal circumstances, the dowry and dinner etc would have definitely been involved.

2% hardly will be those who married courageously on the Sunnat of the Prophet SAWS and did not become a burden on the bride's parents and did not allow them to spend even if the parents were capable as this was the occasion of setting good example of an Islamic Halaal marriage. May Allah bless them with prosperity in Iman, health, wealth and children, Aameen.

So where is the question of beautiful or Ugly, fair or unfair, educated or uneducated, virgin or divorcee/widow? No girl is pardoned of the dowry. The only difference is that the rate of the beautiful, educated and well off family's girls is slightly cheaper than the inferiors.

Another difference is that although the dowry is compulsory for both but the beautiful's dowry is understood by default i.e. comes without bargaining and sometimes it is negotiable too but the inferior's dowry is demanded, nonnegotiable.

So those who advocate the dowry in favor of inferior girls are making the life of the inferior girls more difficult by allowing this system of buying the men for these girls. The call of the hour is to eradicate the dowry from the roots and make the men realise that according to the Quran 4:34 a man (MARD) is defined as the one who spends on the woman instead of making her spend on him". This is the reason he is bestowed upon the rights on her.
It is not wise to defend the Dowry but to stand against it on Military scale. This is the best Jihad of the hour..
