BANEE Scholarship

The constitution of India protects the interests of Minorities and recognises their rights to conserve their language, script or culture and establish and administer educational institutions of their choice.

Introduction:- Maulana Azad Education Foundation was established on the occasion of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad’s birth centenary. The Foundation was registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860, on 6th July, 1989. The Foundation is a voluntary non-political, non-profit making social service organisation established to promote education amongst the educationally backward sections of the society. It is funded by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The Hon’ble Minister (Incharge Wakf) is its Ex-officio President. The aim of the Foundation is to formulate, implement educational schemes and plans for the benefit of the educationally backward minorities in particular and weaker sections in general.

 Title of Scheme:- “Maulana Azad National Scholarship Scheme”

Objective of the Scheme:- To recognize, promote and assist meritorious girls students belonging to National Minorities who can not continue their education without financial support.

Purpose of Scholarships:- Scholarship will be admissible for expenditure on Payment of School/College Fee, purchase of syllabus books, purchase of stationery/equipments required for the course & payment of Boarding/ Lodging charges,

ELIGIBILITY CRITERION/WHO CAN APPLY:- Only Girls Students belonging to National Minorities, i.e. Muslims, Christian, Neo-Buddhists, Sikhs & Parsees and: 

  1. Family income of the student from all sources should be less than Rs.01,00,000/- (Ruppes one lakh only) in the preceding financial year. Income of the parent/guardian is one of the basic criteria for award of Scholarship. Therefore:

  1. Should have appeared in any of recognized Centre/State Board of Secondary Education and have secured not less than 55% marks (in aggregate) in the secondary school certificate examination. List of 33 reconized Boards/Councils is given in Annexure –I.

  2. Have confirmed admission in class-XI/Dip.Engineering/ITI is must. However application for scholarship can be made in anticipation of admission.

  3. The University/College/Institute offering admission should be recognized by the Government at the Central or State level or any other competent authority,

  4. It is one time scholarship, and no claim as permanent beneficiary will be entertained. Student once selected for scholarship can not avail the same again.

  5. A student getting a scholarship from any other source would not be eligible for this scholarship. 

  6. To verify the correctness of the details furnished by the applicants, the concerned State Government may be involved by getting the applications sponsored through them. 

  7. To avoid delay in sanction of the scholarship on account of delay in receipt of proposals from some States/UTs, the proposals received from States/UTs  should be processed immediately after the prescribed time limit without waiting for proposals from the defaulting States/UTs. 

  8. If the target of a particular minority community group in a State/UT is not fulfilled in a given year, then it may be carried forward for a period of two years and if sufficient number of candidates of that minority community group are consistently not available, then that backlog quota may be appropriated against some other community of that State/UT after obtaining prior approval of the Central Government. 

  9. The minimum qualifying marks for the scholarship will be 55%. 

  10. Adequate publicity shall be given for the scheme through print/audio/visual media. 

  11. The last date for receipt of application in the office of the Maulana Azad Education Foundation is September 30 every year, which must be adhered to.

MODE OF SELECTION & DISBURSEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP:- The applications complete in all respect, received will be arranged in order of merit for each State. The applications received will be processed in the Foundation and the Scholarship amount shall be sent to the student directly through account payee Demand Draft by registered post under intimation to the Institution/HOD and State Government.

NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS:- Keeping in view the minorities population of the Country as per 1991 Census 600 scholarships @ Rs.10,000/- each will be given to meritorious girls students. The State-wise break-up of these scholarships is given in Annexure –II.
