Why is the Muslim Ummah deposed as World Leaders? [Fundamental Misconceptions Weakening the Foundation of Muslim Faith - Part3]

.... by Shakeel Ahmad (shakeeluae@gmail.com)

The analogy of fused bulbs applies so very well to the usefulness of a group of people (nation) to be assigned an important role. None of us would want bulbs to be hanging in their places when they stop emitting light - they deserve to be in the dust-bin! They must be replaced as quickly as feasible with the ones that serve the purpose of lighting spaces of our homes or offices. For God Almighty, it's not even a matter of feasilbilty, because for Him, it's simply a matter of "kun fa yakun" (Be! And, it happens!). Yes, being compassionate and merciful, He would definitely give chances, possibly many, to the group chosen to lead the world. However, the principle of justice (and God being the most Just) demands that only the most deserving of the people are entrusted with this most important task of leading the world.

Like, the corporate board of directors would choose the most deserving candidate to be the CEO of their organization! The CEO must be deposed and replaced if he/ she is no more serving the purpose for which he/ she was appointed, either due to incompetence or lack of interest, or because there is a more deserving candidate who can take the organization to new heights of success. Similarly, if your company has been providing a particular service to another company or a government for many years, but has not been able to adapt to the fast-changing environment and was unable to cope with the increased competition from far more competent organizations, would your client still remain stuck with you?

Allah says in Quran [2:122] "O children of Israel, remember that special favour I bestowed upon you, and that I exalted you above all the communities of the world."

The verses (17:4-7) below provide a brief summary of how Allah deposed the Israelites twice after blessing them with the leadership of the world. The reasons that led to their humiliation, destruction and deposition are detailed throughout the Quran and the impending effect is mentioned so precisely in Surah Fatiha as "almaghdoobi AAalayhim" (those who earned Your Anger, i.e. those who knew the Truth, but did not follow it). However, since this term has no tense (being a noun), the term refers to the past nations (like the Israelites) who were deposed from the leadership position due to the corruption (disobedience of the Lord Almighty despite knowing fully well the responsibilies and associated duties assigned to them) they spread in the world, the present nations like the Muslims of our times who have been dethroned after leading the world in every aspect of life for more than a thousand years, and also to the future nations.

[Quran, 17:4-7] "We forewarned the Israelites in the Scriptures: You will work great mischief twice in the land and will become overbearingly arrogant. When the occasion of the first of the two mischiefs came, O Israelites, We raised against you such of Our servants who were very mighty and formidable; so they penetrated through all parts of your country. This was a warning that was bound to be fulfilled. Then after this We afforded you an opportunity to over-power them and helped you with abundance of riches and children and increased you far more in numbers than before. Behold! If you did good it proved to be good for yourselves and if you committed evil it proved to be bad for your own selves. Then, when the time came for the fulfillment of the second warning, We set other enemies on you so that they might disfigure your faces and enter into the Temple just as the former enemies had entered and destroyed whatever they could lay their hands on."

Why is the Muslim Ummah deposed as World Leaders? [Fundamental Misconceptions Weakening the Foundation of Muslim Faith - Part3] The history of the rise and fall of Israelites (briefly described by Allah in the above verses as well as in the previous divine scriptures) is well documented by historians, confirms the design and governance system of the God Almighty, and provides enough reflection for those who are willing to take lessons from them. Allah promises that His infinite mercy and abundant compassion would be on our side if we take concrete measures to revert back to His true obedience and slavery. Israelites were experts in lip-service before. However, we have left them far behind in this - the misconceptions that led them to believe that they are "the chosen people" even if their talks do not reflect in their actions have now engulfed us completely. For example, for most of us reciting of the quran is enough, while understanding it carries hardly any vlaue (what about the commitments we make at least nineteen times in the five obilgatory prayers everyday?). For example, the belief that just uttering with our tongue the kalma tayyaba (declaring our allegiance to just One God and His messenger) is enough to make us eligible for an abode in the paradise, even if we do not understand the duties associated with Ati'ullah (obeying Allah as His true servant) or Atiur Rasool (obeying His prophet because this alone makes us His true servant). Does anyone need a divine verse to understand the value of "walk the talk"? When misconceptions get internalised, they are perceived as the ultimate truth and rationality or logic miserably fails to counter them.

Is it our misconception that Muslims at the helm of world leadership did nothing of the kind mentioned above (and reasons throughout Quran that caused the deposition, punishment and humiliation of Bani-Israel) or are we just turning a blind eye to the realities and refuse to accept our utter disobedience of the Almighty whose khilafah (position of vicegerent/ representative with authority) we love to claim? Click here for brief history of Muslim rulers after the end of khilafah rashidah, to get a glimpse of the clear violations of Allah's commands and utter disobedience (just recalling the slaying of prophet's most beloved grandsons may give enough idea, though).

How can We Rise from the Dust-bin of History to World Leadership again?

Ugly as all the negativity may sound, remeber that diagnosis alone provides the way forward towards cure, recovery and rejuvenation. Unless the ailment is understood and accepted as a reality, no treatment could be planned and executed. The first step should be to cleanse our hearts and minds of the misconceptions or deliberate denial, then we need to look for what Allah actually demands from us in the ephemeral life of this world so as to come out a clear winner in the permanent life coming up very soon. This requires from us sincere efforts to understand the Quran properly which provides practical prescriptions with examples of our past predecessors - if we cannot learn Arabic for this purpose (despite our love for Allah, His book and the language of His book), we must at least go through the translation in our own mother tongue. First, the translation, then the tafseer (explanation, interpretation, etc). As discussed in another article, internalising the divine text book is the only way to counter the all-round attacks of iblees and his agents.

Fundamental Misconception Weakening the Foundation of Muslim Faith - Part1: Surah Fatiha and Our Commitment to Allah

We always wonder why our duas are not answered while Allah has cnfirmed that He is near to us, closer to us than our jugular veins (Quran, 50:16) and promises that he difintely answers our prayers (calls/ duas). The condition for our duas to be answered as prescribed in Ayah 2:186 is that we must respond to Allah's calls. Where are the calls of Allah, and how much time we, as slaves of Allah, have devoted to understand what His demands are from us and how we must respond to them? Still we wonder why our duas aren't being answered and why we have been deposed!!
